Have you seen the stars lately?

Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 03:06 PM EST [General]

Something unique is happening in the skies this week - the Moon, Venus, and Jupiter are all within two degrees of each other. The next time the two planets, Jupiter and Venus, and the moon will be visible like this will be the week of Nov. 18, 2052. The moon was the brightest of the three, but was also the smallest. The moon came in at 252,000 miles away - Venus 94 million miles away - and Jupiter 540 million miles away... kinda gives you an idea how big Venus and Jupiter are compared to the moon. Be sure to take a look around sundown one night this week. (Text from CNN.com)

Isn't it a great time to be alive, awake and aware of our surroundings??

I am glad you posted a pic. It has been cloudy here. I will check the sky tonight.

Stopped in a parking lot the other night and went, "What the Hell? Is that a strage aircraft flight configuration?" (Metro is only 20 miles away). Waited for a bit to see if it would break up and it didn't, so I headed home to check the skywatcher sites.

Happy to have found out that I wasn't seeing things...

I first noticed it Sunday night at sunset when we were outside the bowling alley. My friend, "the Capt." explained it to us. Being a retired pilot, he knows about stars, navigation and such. It was a beautiful--and short-lived sight. If I wasn't with my sober bowlers (aka my "harem") I would never have seen that!

    (Disclaimer: not the actual Captain)
